Carla Found Innocent—But Not Freed!

The tragic story of Carla Ramos continues—a travesty of justice that she has endured for more than three and a half years while her children grow up without her. She was found innocent of the capital murder charges by a jury of her peers in Brownsville and yet DA Villalobos continued to misrepresent the situation to the press and called for a mistrial.

After being found innocent, the 27-year-old woman was taken into custody by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and incarcerated in the Raymondville prison camp; they did not allow her one moment to visit with her children, including the three year old girl she has never been allowed to hug since delivering her while incarcerated.

Update, November 2009: she was prosecuted on federal charges of illegally entering the country and was sentenced to a year, despite the unjust and long incarceration awaiting trial on what many consider to be "trumped up charges."
After she serves time in the federal facility, she will be deported to Mexico. Then, finally, her children can at least cross the border to visit her and she can hug her youngest child, Esperanza.

Thanks to all of you writing her, especially our soldiers who write her regularly and even send $ for her kids. Send diana@texasjailproject.org a note and I'll email you her new address.
