Aaron’s Mother Speaks Out: Will Texas Listen?

Aug 1st, 2011 | Category: Families Speak Out, Gregg County

Micah Reese30-year-old Micah Aaron Garner died in the Gregg County Jail just six months after 33-year-old Amy Lynn Cowling died in the jail. Both had told jail officials they were addicted to methadone and each had other medical issues as well. Both died in the throes of untreated withdrawal, pleading for help. Here is a statement by his mother sent to us July 31st.

Before Aaron’s death I had been praying for guidance and purpose. I would never have suspected that the answer would come in this way. Today I declare that my son’s purpose is to change the HELL that he, Amy and countless others have had to experience at the hands of an apparantly uncaring, irresponsible criminal justice system.

It is not only Gregg County. It goes much higher than that. The State of Texas is accountable for these senseless deaths – not only the deaths but the suffering these beloved children had to endure. I try not to think about it but it is impossible. It consumes me. I am ready for the good fight because this PURPOSE is mine also. NOW IS THE TIME!
