This Citizen’s Guide (click on the underlined words) is full of answers to questions you may have about criminal charges–there is a box showing the kinds of misdemeanors and felonies–plus vicitims’ rights and much more. Thanks to the State Bar of Texas for providing this free of charge! 

Note: there is a great chart on last page that shows how the different steps from arrest onwards. Problem area:  the section on confinement fails to describe how county jails operate and who is held in them.
