An inmate found dead in a Bosque County Jail cell in May committed suicide, according to an autopsy report.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the 36-year-old woman died of “asphyxia due to hanging, manner of death consistent with suicide,” according to Bosque County District Attorney B.J. Shepherd.

The Clifton woman had been arrested a day earlier on a warrant for child endangerment charges. Shepherd said the woman had been alone and unresponsive in the cell. Efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

Shepherd said he was still awaiting a report from the Texas Rangers, who were called to investigate the death.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a Bosque County inmate in her cell Saturday morning.

Bosque County Jail officials discovered April Troyn, 36, of Clifton, unresponsive in her cell and began emergency medical procedures. Paramedics rushed to the jail, but attempts to resuscitate Troyn were unsuccessful, according to sheriff’s office reports.

Troyn was arrested Friday on a Clifton police warrant charging her with child endangerment.

Her body was sent to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office for autopsy, according to the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office.

Has there been an update to this report? Was the cause of death identified?

The family should have been issued a death certificate by this time. Even if they were waiting on toxicology reports. I know all avenues have to be investigated when there is a death in custody and this process takes time. But I have not been able to find any information with updates to this story. People do die of natural causes and that may be what happened. Just don’t understand why it’s taking so long.

They are saying April Troyn died from Asphyxiation and that it was done by her self. For those who does not know:Asphyxiation occurs when a person’s oxygen supply is cut off and air is unable to reach the lungs and surrounding blood
supply. Death from asphyxiation can occur from many things, sometimes it’s accidental and sometimes it’s homicide.

The autopsy report only said she had died from asphyxiation. Bj sheperd added his own opinion by saying it was self inflicted… the family is being refused access to VIEW the autopsy report. Texas state law says they may be able to seal the records when there is an open investigation. but the person with medical power of attorney and next to kin can view ALL the medical records. The Bosque County JP 1 Ray Ballman is also refusing to allow the family to exhume the body for a 2nd autopsy. All the test was not performed in the first test. They were not testing for foul play. Ballman states. Just looking for a cause of death in The Basic autopsy! Well the basic autopsy is just not enough when the death is under investigation.
