….Betty says her son had gotten his life back together and was getting involved in the family business, Betty’s Antiques.

“He loved antiquing, he loved the thrill. He loved getting out and finding those hidden treasures,” Betty says.

One of their favorite activities together was antiques hunting at estate sales.

“Me and him went out and bought estates. It’s something he loved. But it’s not the same without him,” Madewell says.

And they shared a passion for rare finds.

“One of the things was a Louis Icor print, and I had bought one and he always wanted to find one and he called me one day and he had found one. And he was just thrilled to death over it,” she says.

It’s more difficult now. The business she and Bobby worked so hard on, the business that would have been turned over to him, will never happen.

“This was to go to him. For him. Its very difficult, very hard without him,” says Betty.

The conditions of Bobby’s death leave her angry, and leaves a void in the Madewell family.  Betty says it’s difficult sometimes for her to go to work.

“This business, it reminds me everyday, he would come open the gates for me, he helped me close. Its very hard,” she says.

The Madewell family filed a lawsuit against the Gregg County Jail on August 6th in the Marshall Federal Court. The lawsuit claims Madewell was not given the right medication while in custody.
