Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a Bowie man who was found in his Montague County jail cell.

Trooper Tony Fulton says 28 year old James McGowan was booked into the jail last week. The Montague County Sheriff’s office lists McGowan’s charges as theft of a firearm and unlawful possession firearm by felon.

And, a records check shows McGowan’s been arrested before for unauthorized use of a vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Texas Rangers are waiting on an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
