Nov 30th, 2020 | Category: In The NewsSmith County media is starting to pay attention, but when are county officials going to take action? In this CBS story, reporter Payton Weidman describes how veteran Chris McSwain, a 22-year veteran who sustained a traumatic brain injury during his service, has been deteriorating in the Smith County Jail for more than four months. His wife Tara McSwain says it’s not fair or humane to hold him when he needs to be hospitalized. She teamed up with, Dalila Reynoso, an advocate with the Texas Jail Project for the demonstration. The two women held up posters late into the evening on Thanksgiving and the two stayed at the courthouse until Monday. Weidman writes, “The pair plan to speak with state legislatures about allocating funding for traumatic brain injury treatment options before the Texas legislature meets in January.”
